It's that time of year again! December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas. But what is the real meaning of Christmas? Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards in the mail, dinners with family and friends?
Christmas can be a season of great joy! It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of knowing about this great event.**
Yet, for many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don't have the resources to buy presents for their children, family, and friends. Many are saddened at Christmas when they think of their loved ones who will not be able to come home for various reasons.
This year has been particularly challenging. The pandemic has caused untold misery and suffering to many. Precious lives lost, unemployment at unprecedented levels, economy floundering. Yet, there is hope – this is the season of hope!!
During this gargantuan crises, the Bombay YMCA responded in no small measure. We hit the road running – colleagues, members, volunteers, staff all pitched in with their mite. Despite all activities being closed and our sources of income severely crippled, we were able to impact and touch lives of the marginalised. Food grains kits, cooked food, masks, sanitisers, medicines were made available through the generous support of our donors. Sacrifices had to be made and it was made ungrudgingly!
We believe that the worst is over and the best is yet to come. We believe in an unfailing, loving and living God.
In closing, may I request you our members and well-wishers to join us at the Bombay YMCA with your talents, time and treasure as we continue our mission to serve the displaced and disadvantaged. Every contribution is more than welcome!
We can truly be happy at Christmas! No matter what may be happening, we can know that we are His children.
